Monument record TQ 77 SE 1412 - A Second World War bomb crater is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in May 1942

Summary

A possible Second World War bomb crater is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in May 1942, and has been mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The feature is located immediately adjacent to the north bank of the Medway, 1336.5m south east of Hoo St Werburgh. Aerial photographs taken in May 1942 show a roughly circular area of disturbed ground about 24.6m in diameter, which probably represents traces of a back-filled bomb crater. This feature may be associated with a clearer example of a bomb crater located 385m to the north west.
