Monument record TQ 87 SW 1199 - A 20th century railway linking Berry Wiggins Kingsnorth oil refinery with a wharf on the Medway and the mainline
Summary
A 20th century railway linking Berry Wiggins Kingsnorth oil refinery with a wharf on the Medway and the mainline can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This line left Berry Wiggins and headed circa 300m north-east to join the mainline. A second line left this soon after leaving the refinery and headed south-east for circa 900m to a wharf on the Medway. Most of this has since been demolished although the line to the mainline is still visible on 2006 air photos. It was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
