Full Description

An archaeological desk-based assessment recorded a large quantity of medieval pottery and some roof tile being found in this area, largely dating from the 13th-14th century. The pottery was recovered from a number of different areas during different excavations. Around 700 sherds were recovered from one of the sites.
Medieval pottery included "handles, bases, rims, sagging bases with notches, thumb-pressed bases and decorated sherds" (from the report, 1). Some of the pottery is thought to be local sandy ware. The large quantity of sherds found has suggested the presence of a possible kiln site in the area.
The precise locations of the finds are unknown. (1)
