Full Description

'Dover, 23rd Sept. The SURPRISE, Egg, from Cephalonia to London, came on shore in West Bay, this morning, and as it has blown a heavy gale all day at SW, it is feared will go to pieces. Crew and passengers saved.' (1)

'Dover, 24th Sept. The SURPRISE, Egg, from Cephalonia, is a total wreck, with the exception of one broadside, which will be sold tomorrow. Not a box of fruit has been saved.' (2)

Source (3) specifies the cargo as citrus fruit, and expresses the date of loss as a reporting date of 24-SEP-1830, not quoting source (1).
