Full Description
The remains of a possible wash house constructed in the late 19th century/early 1900’s was exposed during a watching Brief that was carried out on the groundworks for an extention at 9 Mildred's Road, Minster in 2011 by The Trust for Thanet Archaeology. The foundations were constructed from flint and a floor surface of brick cobbles laid over rammed chalk was found associated with the building. The wall is probably part of the extension to the east west aligned building shown along the northern boundary of the site on the 3rd edition historic Ordnance Survey map of 1907. The rammed chalk is possibly associated with a surface located on the exterior of the building. A patch of brick cobbles laid above the chalk surface is also associated with this building. The owner of the neighbouring property to the north of the site indicated that the previous building had been used as a women’s home and that the building along the northern edge of the site had been used as a
wash house. (information summarised from source) (1)
