Full Description
A probable Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age feature was excavated at 63 Chestfield Road, Chestfield during an evaluation in 2000. The feature comprised a cut aligned roughly E-W and measuring 1.5m in width and 0.2m in depth. Six sherds of Late Bronze Age - Early Iron Age pottery were contained within its fill, suggesting it dated from the later prehistoric period. Another feature at the site produced a single residual sherd of prehistoric pottery.
The probable Late Bronze Age - Early Iron Age feature and associated later prehistoric pottery at the site has led to the interpretation that a settlement may have existed in the western part of the site during the Late Bronze Age - Early Iron Age period. (1)
