'Canterbury, March 27...This unfortune (sic) of losing the ship was owing to weather and very heavy squalls of snow, they lost sight of the lights; and about 3 o'clock on Wednesday morning, she struck the sands, and immediately bulged; the captain and crew got safe on shore as soon as they could see daylight; and in about an hour after the ship broke to pieces, and, with the cargo, drove away to sea.' NB: The master's name, number of crew, departure, destination, and cargo, were incorporated by the original compiler who input (1) and (2), so must have been derived from (1) or (2), or both, but are not included in either text; however, the master's name is, in a variant spelling, corroborated by (3), as are the departure and destination.
