NB: At the time of loss the Julian ("Old Style") Calendar was still in use in England, and was to continue so until 1752, when the Gregorian ("New Style") Calendar came into force. The New Year additionally began on 25th March, dates between 1st January and 24th March inclusive according to Old Style being one year behind New Style. Some contemporary sources preferred Old Style only; some used both, as in source (3); a few used New Style only. For consistency, all NMR records are indexed with New Style, since that calendar is still in use today. (4)
