Full Description

property known as ‘The Old Forge' is porposed fro development - A ‘smithy’ is recorded on the First Edition Ordnance Survey (OS) map of 1877. This map shows an undeveloped triangular plot with a group of buildings standing outside its north-west corner, at the front, west end of a long, narrow rectangular plot. The buildings comprise a rectangular building, aligned west – east, labelled as a ‘smithy’, a small outbuilding to its east, and a terraced row of four buildings to its north, also aligned west – east. A well is beside the west end of the terraced buildings. By the Second OS Edition of 1899, the smithy had been extended to its rear, the terrace has been extended east by three buildings, the outbuilding had been demolished, and three small outbuildings had been built to the rear of the smithy, alongside the southern boundary. There was no change by the Third Edition OS map of 1908. The three outbuildings had been demolished by the Fourth Edition OS map of 1934.(1) (information summarised from source)
