Full Description
Four fragments of probable Iron Age pottery and a piece of undated fire-cracked flint were excavated during a watching brief at Military Road, Cliffsend in 2019-2020. The piece of burnt flint was described as being heavily calcined to a light grey colour and measuring around 65mm. The pottery sherds (with a combined weight of 1g) appeared to have originated from a single vessel. The fabric is described as having "a fine sandy matrix with common quartz of around 0.1mm and sparse fine flint of <1mm" (from the original report, 1). All of the finds originated from the same context within a single trench but are thought to have migrated from their original site of deposition due to a lack of associated features. (Location within 10m based on available information). (1)
