Full Description

Longbeech North forms part of the large ecclesiastical woodland which belonged to the Priory of Christ Church and the Archbishops of Canterbury since the 10th century (apart from two short periods after the Dissolution and during the Civil War). Today the wood contains numerous historic features including medieval and post medieval land boundaries, including the parish boundary; wood banks marking property boundaries; boundary markers and lynchets; saw pits; routeways; quarry pits and deneholes; enclosures and building platforms. Most features dated to the medieval and post medieval periods though there were a few early medieval boundaries and numerous ndated features.(1)
