Thanet Crematorium was built in 1966 for the Boroughs of Margate and Ramsgate and Broadstairs Urban District Council Joint Committee, it was designed by George E Sewell and two architectural assistants, and built by Sandells, & Partners, Ashford. The building is dominated by the pitched roof of the chapel, which is surrounded by low flat-roofed ancillary buildings. The building is of multi-red handmade Kent bricks with six reconstructed Portland stone columns to the porte-cohere and Portland stone facing panels flanking the anodised aluminium entrance doors. A small enlclosed garden is visible from the chapel and a Chapel of Rest is accessed from the cloister.(1)
