Monument record TR 37 SW 1096 - Margate Station

Summary

LC&DR Margate station, one which was built, but never opened. In conjunction with the 1863 works to provide a through station on the tightly curved route, the decision was taken to erect a terminus no more than 300 yards away. This was to lay immediately adjacent to, and run parallel with, the SER’s Margate station. In 1923 Southern Railway (SR) took over both the South Eastern Railway (SER) and London, Chatham & Dover Railway (LC&DR). In 1926 SR closed the Margate Sands Station and rebuilt Margate West Station.
