Summary

Alkali Row, probably of six properties appears on 1st (1862-1875), 2nd (1897-1900), 3rd (1906-1923). By the 4th ed. (1929-1952) only nos. 1,2 and the end property remain, with the end property being lost by the Modern OS maps. The soup kitchen was situated in nos. 1 and 2, and only specifically named on the KENTXXV4.22 OS map. Alkali Row probably a site for burning of seaweed to produce alkali ash used in the making ofglass, fertiliser and in pottery glazing.
