Monument record TR 37 SE 1410 - Margate Jetty
Summary
In 1824, Jarvis’ Landing Place, for landing visitors from Steamers, was to the east of the (stone) pier. This wooden jetty was replaced in 1853-5 by Eugenius Birch’s first seaside pier. A hexagonal pier head extension was added in 1875-7. In January 1978 the Jetty was largely destroyed in a storm.
