Full Description
A palaeochannel dating to the Palaeolithic period was excavated at Clayhangar Hall, Chislet during an evaluation in 2020. Evidence for the channel comprised a deposit of sand and sandy gravel which was dated to around 140,000yrs before the present day and is thought to represent an ancient watercourse associated with the Great Stour. A single fragment of worked flint dating to around 180–60,000yrs before the present day was associated with the deposit (1).
