Full Description
The SECRET, a lugger master Davies, put out ot sea on Friday morning at about 4 o'clock on a cruise. She proceeded to Long Sand and when near the spot on which the ill fated INDIAN CHIEF was wrecked recently they observed the top mast of a Dutch fishing smack with a sailor fastened there to by a wire. The man was unable to speak English and was dreadfully exhausted. It appears that the fishing smack was driven onto the sands during a snow squall on Thursday morning at 1.30 and gradually sank so that the crew of 7 men had to take to the rigging. One by one they fell off and the poor fellow who was rescued was the only one remaining. The lugger reached harbour at about one o'clock on Friday afternoon and the poor fellow was immediately taken to the Cottage Hospital (Margate).
