Full Description

The site of a 15m long embanked Second World War slit trench located above the beach on the northern side of the barbed wire entanglements (MKE124018) west of Birchington on Sea. This was part of the extensive defences protecting a low-lying area between Birchington and Plumbpudding Island. This site was dentified as an earthwork on aerial photograph RAF/26J/BR194 VC 37 10-JAN-1941, later noted as infilled on Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 05-MAY-2018. This site was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024 (1-2).
