Full Description
A medieval/post medieval extractive pit is visible as a cropmark on Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 21-APR-2007. This feature was mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (1)
This feature was also revealed during a geophysical survey and evaluation trenching carried out off Foxborough Lane. The feature was extensive, measuring over 37m in length within the evaluation trench. A single fill was exposed and partially excavated by machine, with the depth of this deposit/ feature extending beyond 0.86m BGL. Rare post-medieval tile and a single sherd of pottery dated fourteenth to fifteenth century were recovered. It is likley that this feature is related to medieval or post-medieval quarrying activity, as this has also been identified previously in the vicinity. (2)
