Monument record MKE124576 - Prefabricated Houses, Stirling Way

Twentieth Century prefabricated houses are visible as buildings on RAF/F64 /82/1006 0004 31-AUG-1954. The houses have been demolished on the latest Next Perspectives APGB 21-APR_2007. The features were recorded as part of the Thanet Landscape Mapping project. (1-2)

An estate of post-war prefabricated houses built in 1946 at Newington on the NW edge of Ramsgate. When photographed in April 1946 the outline of the estate could be seen in open undeveloped land with only the road layout visible - including Stirling Way, Kingston Way, Conyngham and Melbourne Avenue. The houses were Uni-Seco type prefabs - square, single storeyed with a flat or slightly pitched roof as well as a small shed gardens and concrete paths. They were removed and replaced by flats at some point after 1960, but the road layout has remained. A second estate was constructed along the Margate Road at Whitehall. These estates have been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the Historic England: Ramsgate HAZ project. (3-5)
