Monument record TQ 87 NW 1199 - Second World War buildings and structures forming two separate nuclei to the north and north-west of Slough Fort, Allhallows-on-Sea
Summary
Second World War buildings and structures forming two separate nuclei to the north and north-west of Slough Fort, Allhallows-on-Sea. The buildings were linked by a network of support roads and the two groups linked by a single road runing along the coast just inside the coastal defence line. It is not clear from the high level RAF aerial photogaphs (taken in August 1945) what the sites represented, and the 1944 Luftwaffe map of Kent records them as "Installation of unknown type". They are almost certainly part of the extensive wartime defences concentrated along the Thames and Medway rivers, and could be associated with one of three recorded, but unlocated, Light Anti Aircraft Batteries (LAA) around Slogh Fort. These features were all mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
