Monument record TQ 87 NW 1200 - Cropmark traces of a possible pit alignment of nine large pits of uncertain date and origin located to the south of Allhallows-on-Sea
Summary
Cropmark traces of a possible pit alignment of nine large pits of uncertain date and origin located to the south of Allhallows-on-Sea. These were mapped from aerial photographs taken by English Heritage in 2011 as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The pits are arranged in a single row of three aligned ENE-WSW, with the remaining six arranged in a N-S line perpendicular and south of the first three. The cropmarks in this area are confused by the presence of complex cropmarks of the underlying geology, in particular periglacial cracking. This makes identification and isolation of archaeological features difficult.
