Maritime record TQ 87 NW 1240 - The remains of the post-medieval sailing barge SWALE

Summary

The remains of the post-medieval sailing barge SWALE can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1946, revealing that it was abandoned by this date. This barge is situated on Stoke Saltings alongside the wreck of a First World War U-boat and was originally recorded with it, see NMR 900735. The fragmentary remains of the SWALE are still visible on an aerial photograph taken in 2007. This wreck was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. Status: Site
