Full Description
A fighter pen of Second World War date was visible as an earthwork in RAF/HLA/407 V 77 28-FEB-1942. This E-type fighter pen was situated on the western side of the airfield. A long, narrow revetted slit trench was positioned behind the fighter pen's eastern arm. An area of hard-standing in front of the fighter pen may have been of Second World War construction. Alternatively, it may have formed a small apron for a 1930s aircraft hangar that formerly stood in this location.
These features were recorded as levelled earthworks/demolished structure in Next Perspectives APGB Imagery 07-APR-2021 and were mapped as part of the Historic England Isle of Thanet project in 2024. (1-2)
