'Neptunes Tower' is a folly built at around the same time as Kingsgate Castle to enhance the view from the latter. It is in the form of an Henrican castle, four round bastions and formerly a tower in the central courtyard, the footings of which can still be seen. It was used by observers as a look out post during World War II. It could also have been possibly used in the role of a pillbox as the walls are approximately two feet thick. with 'gunports'? in various places. The tower was demolished in the late 60's or early 70's. (2-3)
