Full Description

Hearson/Hereson - extent of settlement as shown on the 1797 and Tithe (1837-58) maps. Hereson was quite a large hamlet consisting of a number of dwellings at this time. Legend has it that the hamlet got its name from the story of a farmer shouting out to his son in a winter storm 'I'm here son, I'm here son! At length came the reply 'Holler again! Holler again!'. The boy's voice got fainter and fainter. In the calm the following morning his body was found. The adjacent hamlet to the west is called Hollicondane(ie Holler again).
