Full Description
TQ 7575 7148. A short length of zigzag trench 48.75m long, representing a First World War practice trench or a Second World War air raid shelter or slit trench, visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The site lies within an area described, on a War Department map of Lodge Hill field defences, 1914-16, as part of the "New field works ground". It is adjacent to the Beacon Hill First World War anti aircraft battery and the First World War pillbox or war shelter on top of the Post Medieval beacon mound (Monument 416749). The trenches also lie immediately to the south of a Second World War military camp, and may have been used as an air raid shelter for that installation. (1-4)
