Monument record TQ 77 SE 1434 - A short length of zigzag trench and a separate slit trench flanked by banks are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs
Summary
A short length of zigzag trench and a separate slit trench flanked by banks are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs and have been mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. Both trenches probably representing First World War practice trenches or Second World War air raid shelters or slit trenches. The trenches lie just to the east of an area described, on a War Department map of Lodge Hill field defences, 1914-16, as part of the New field works ground. They are also located to the east of a Second World War military camp and may have been used as an air raid shelter associated with that installation.
