Monument record TQ 77 SE 1436 - Linear banks, probably Medieval or Post Medieval sea defences, located about one kilometre east of Hoo St Werburgh

Summary

Linear banks, probably Medieval or Post Medieval sea defences, located about one kilometre east of Hoo St Werburgh and about 60-80 metres north of the present bank of the Medway, have been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The sea defences comprise two fragmentary double banks aligned roughly west to east, and are similar to, and possibly associated with, linear banks about 190m farther inland near Abbots Court, and others immediately to the east.
