Full Description
Linear banks, probably Medieval or Post Medieval sea defences, located about one kilometre east of Hoo St Werburgh and about 60-80 metres north of the present bank of the Medway, have been mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. The features are similar to, and possibly associated with, linear banks about 190m farther inland (Monument 1547412) near Abbots Court, and others immediately to the east (Monuments 1547452, 1547455). The sea defences comprise two fragmentary double banks aligned roughly west to east. The first, centred at TQ 7929 7177, is about 77m long; the second, describing a right angle centred at TQ 7921 7173, has a total length of about 93m. (1)
