Monument record TQ 67 SE 1282 - Two groups of Second World War allotments can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1946

Summary

Two groups of Second World War allotments can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1946. These allotments were situated along the north-western side of Denton Court Road with a second group a little to the west of these. They were created as part of the Dig for Victory campaign that was introduced in September 1940. This campaign encouraged people to produce their own food in response to the wartime shortages. By 1951 houses had been built over the allotments along Denton Court Road. By 1967 the western group and the pre-World War Two allotments that they adjoined had also been built over. These allotments were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.
