Full Description
The slight earthwork remains of a former sea wall on Filborough Marshes can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1950. These incomplete earthworks are orientated north-south. They are situated to the east of and run roughly parallel to a wide pathway defined by drainage ditches which connects Chalk to Eastcourt Marshes on the coast of the Thames. Three sections, centred on TQ 6767 7345, can be traced for circa 260m. Approximately 144m to the north are two further sections which together run for circa 90m (centred on TQ 6767 7374). The bank is of an irregular width generally between 7m and 8m and most sections are flanked by drainage ditches. These earthworks were mapped were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1)
