A borehole survey was carried out at the site in 2025 in advance of proposed restoration works. Two boreholes were drilled at the middle pond. These were drilled to 0.37-0.38m in depth; both recorded layers of colluvium, one borehole producing evidence for artefactual inclusions (fire cracked flint and a piece of worked flint) within the colluvium. This is indicative of possible nearby prehistoric activity. The relatively shallow depths of the boreholes was a result of stones restricting the depth of the boreholes.
The lack of water lain sediments may indicate that this was a natural landscape feature which did not form a pond, or could be a result of colluvial processes removing an pond sediments. (2)
