Former extractive pit (e.g chalk, clay, gravel), visible on 1st and 2nd edition OS map. Recorded during 2024 Kent Downs National Landscape Historic Ponds project.

Description: Two ponds together close to Betsom's Hill farmstead. Largest seen on 1st, 2nd and modern OS maps (this one). Pond has now changed shape and a lot smaller. Seen on 1m Lidar.

The feature is not labelled as a former extractive pit or quarry on the OS maps, and, as it is associated with a farmstead, may be more likely to have had a an agricultural origin.
