Four post-medieval chalk pits are visible on the 1st (1862-1875) and 2nd edition (1897-1900) OS maps at Upper Hardres, Canterbury. The features are labelled as "Old Chalk Pit" on the 1st edition OS map, suggesting that they may have been established before the 19th century. (1, 2)
