Two post-medieval chalk pits are visible on the 1st edition (1862-1875) and 2nd edition (1897-1900) OS maps at Wye with Hinxhill, Ashford. The features are described as "Old Chalk Pit" on the 1st edition OS map, suggesting that the quarries may have been established before the 19th century. (1, 2)
