Full Description

Site of White Oak Hospital and School, London Road, Swanley as shown on the 3rd and 4th Edition O/S maps. The buildings have been demolished and are not shown on the current O/S map.
The Hospital and School were opened in 1903 for poor London children with contagious eye diseases. There were 30 cottages for the children (each cottage accommodated 12 children and a house mother). There was also a staff block for the duty nurse administering medical care and a kitchen with a cook and servant. The central administration block accommodated the matron, assistant matron and other nurse3s as well as the domestic staff. The site also contained buildings for the junior and senior schools, 4 cottages for the male staff and, at the north end, an infirmary and an isolation cottage. The Hospital and School closed in 1950. The site has now been redeloped as a business park.
