Full Description
A Roman building was identified during an excavation at Bogshole Lane, Herne Bay carried out in 2001. The building comprised a rectangular post-built structure consisting of five post-pits measuring up to 0.20m in depth. The space between each post was around 7m, creating a building measuring 14m in length and 7m in width. The building may have originally been associated with a contemporary field system at the site. Five Roman artefacts were identified during the excavation, however, these were recovered as residual material from medieval contexts. These comprised a basalt lava quern fragment, two hobnails, Roman tile, and an amphora sherd.
The structure is thought by the report's authors to potentially have been associated with a farmstead enclosure to the NW. (1)
