Full Description
A post-medieval boundary ditch was excavated on land North of Thanet Way, Whitstable was identified during an evaluation in 2017. This was represented by a NE-SW aligned linear feature measuring 0.6m in width and 0.27m in depth, its length extending beyond the limits of the excavation. The fill contained post-medieval material including a 16th-17th century brick fragment "This feature probably represents a former field boundary, visible on the earliest detailed historic mapping, the Tithe Map of 1840, and on Ordnance Survey maps up to 1908. The feature appears to have been removed by the time of the 1962 OS edition" (from the original report, 1).
