Full Description
A post-medieval linear feature and a possible quarry were excavated at Church Lane, Seasalter during an evaluation 2023. "Activity for the post medieval period is represented by [a] linear feature and shallow clay extraction pit . These features did not contain a dense array of finds and the ceramic assemblage consisted of household wares. It possible that the linear feature represents a continuation of agrarian land divisioning seen earlier in the Medieval period as it is aligned in a similar North to South direction. The features may be associated with either of the two post-medieval farmsteads known to border the proposed development area" (from the original report, 1).
The linear feature was aligned N-S and measured 1.11m wide and 0.44m deep, containing post-medieval pottery within its fill. The quarry measured 0.08m in depth and contiued beyond the limits of the excavation. This feature contained clinker and post-medieval brick within its fill. (1)
