Full Description

TQ 836534. A dam at the North end of Leeds Castle moat extends for 200m. Only a very degraded spread bank survives, 35m overall with a flattish top some 15m across, and standing 1.5m above the water level at its highest. The significance of the dam is that it delimits the moat at this point. The moat could have extended further North had this dam not been constructed and the main dam west of the castle been built higher. This further means that the curious shape of the moat was designed in that way.(1)
