Summary

Brick-built 3-storey general hospital in the Italian style opened in 1832. A right wing was added in 1862. Later additions include a children's ward (1882), new wings (1889 and 1898) and a new operating theatre (1907). The original hospital, located in Marsham Street, was replaced by the current Maidstone Hospital in Barming. The old West Kent General Hospital site has since been redeveloped as a sheltered retirement flats complex called Hengist Court
