Full Description

Two possible Roman graves were identified during a watching brief at York Lodge, 50 London Road, Canterbury carried out in 2017. Both features were aligned NW-SE and measured up to around 2.2m in length, 660-720mm in width, and over 200mm in depth. The grave to the NE of the site was only partially exposed during excavations, therefore the GIS depiction is based on the conjectured projection of the feature.

Artefacts associated with the fill of the features included 13 fragments from a 2nd - 3rd pottery vessel, 7 sherds of 2nd-3rd century pottery, a tile fragment, a piece of burnt flint, and 4 iron hobnails. No skeletal remains were recovered from the features. (1)
