Full Description
Second World War roadblock on the railway bridge at Hollins Bottom on the A299 centred at TR 3540 6510 and visible on wartime RAF aerial photographs. The roadblock comprises substantial anti tank cubes flanking the road as it approaches the crossing from Ramsgate (east) with further concrete blocks extending around the southern road side to the edge of the cutting. On the north-western side of the railway further and more extensive defences (anti tank cubes) extend along the lip of the railway cutting for over 100m NE and for 30m to the south west. Traces of barbed wire can be seen enclosing the triangle formed between the road and railway on the north-western side, within which is a probable pillbox of command post located on the southen side of the road.No trace remains.(1)
