Full Description
The remains of a post medieval sheepfold on St Mary's Marsh which are depicted on the first 1880 Ordnance Survey map can be seen on aerial photographs at TQ 7904 7858. This sheepfold occupies an area of land that interrupts the main channel of water that leads to St Mary's Bay and marks the boundary between the parishes of High Halstow and St Mary Hoo. The site is marked as a sheepwash by 1897 and an additional building and yard have also been constructed by this date. This is centred on TQ 7870 7889 and is marked as a cattle shed on the 2005-2006 Ordnance Survey map. This site was identified as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project.(1-4)
