Full Description
The remains of a short pier located at TQ 7084 7731 just to the north of the mouth of Cliffe Creek thought to date from the 1930s (possibly Second World War). The pier extends into the estuary for c.80m where it splits into two short arms. It appears to be associated with a small depot at its landward end comprising two large cylindrical fuel storage tanks and three buildings. These may themselves be associated with another older pier to the north which is connected to a fuel pipeline which extends from this pier across the Cliffe Marshes. These features were mapped from 1947 RAF aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1)
A site visit made in 2005 by investigators from Kent as part of the North Kent Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Phase ii, Year 2: Field Assessment noted the pier comprising iron railway tracks re-used as posts.
