Full Description
An earthwork bank, possibly the remains of a medieval or post medieval sea bank can be seen on aerial photographs taken in 1947. This bank was situated on the marshes in the north-western part of the parish and was centred on TQ 7580 7821. This is to the south of a drainage channel that defines the parish boundary between Cooling and Cliffe and a field that while in Cliffe parish is behind the Cooling sea wall. It is possible that this bank represents and earlier line of sea defence that more closely followed Cooling's parish boundary. It has since been levelled. This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape Project. (1-2)
