Full Description
Historic pond, visible on the Heritage Tithe Map and the 1st and 2nd edition OS maps. Recorded during 2024 Kent Downs National Landscape Historic Ponds project.
Preservation: Whole pond clearly visible on current OS/LIDAR
Pond shape: Circular/oval
Site type: Former extractive pit (e.g chalk, clay, gravel)
Description: Deep excavation clear on LIDAR. Pond appears in 1st and 2nd ed OS and now lies under trees in a private garden. Seems to be part of a wider area of excavation, with a nearby larger pond - possibly associated with the Waltham Court workhouse.
