Full Description

The Wheatsheaf public house, Sittingbourne was built in the early 1830's, with architecture typical of Late Georgian and early Victorian public houses comprising "sash windows and voussoir arches to the upper elevations and wide windows to the bar areas with decorative acid etched glass" (from the original report, 1). The building was investigated in 2024 via historic building recording by Invicta Archaeological Services.

Most of the historic fabric was located on the ground floor of the building, particularly the bar area where original brickwork was identified. Much of the original fabric has undergone alterations "with modern mock timbering, plaster boarded walls and removal and/or alterations to brick walling. The first floor has seen much modern additions over the years, with little of the original fabric exposed for recording except for the sash windows" (from the original report, 1). (1)
