Monument record TR 23 NW 844 - A World War Two pillbox at the former Hawkinge Airfield

A World War Two pillbox, part of the former Hawkinge Airfield's defences, at TR 205 391, Hawkinge, Kent. The Defence of Britain Record States that the pillbox was built between 1940-1941. It is situated off Gibraltar Lane. It is a type 22 concrete pillbox with reinforced walls (except the rear wall). There are the remains of a light anti aircraft emplacement on the roof. In 1996 when visited as part of the defence of Britain project, the pillbox was said to be extant but in bad condition. (1-4)

A World War Two pillbox at the former Hawkinge Airfield (Hawkinge, Kent), situated on the south-east side, near Terlingham Manor Farm, at TR 214 392. The Defence of Britain record states that it was built in 1940, and is an Air Ministry standard type, built from reinforced concrete. The pillbox was reported as extant in 1996. (1)
