Summary

A World War Two pillbox at Hawkinge Airfield. The pillbox is situated on rising ground overlooking the airfield just inside the boundary of the former military airfield. It takes the form of a sunken rectangular blockhouse built of reinforced concrete. There are two embrasures just above ground level facing onto the airfield. It may have been built between 1940 and 1941. The pillbox was reported as extant in 1999.

Full Description

A World War Two pillbox at Hawkinge Airfield, Hawkinge, Kent, TR 206 392. The pillbox is situated on rising ground overlooking the airfield just inside the boundary of the former military airfield. It takes the form of a sunken rectangular blockhouse built of reinforced concrete. There are two embrasures just above ground level facing onto the airfield. The defence of Britain project states that the pillbox was built between 1940 and 1941. The pillbox was reported as extant after a Defence of Britain project vield visit in 1999. (1-2)
